Medication is only one part of successful weight management. Our approach combines appropriate treatment with regular medical review, monitoring and lifestyle support to help you make steady and sustainable progress.
What Are GLP-1 and GIP Agonists?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor agonists such as Mounjaro and Ozempic belong to a trusted, long-standing class of medications originally developed for type 2 diabetes.
With decades of clinical research behind them, today they are widely recognised for their benefits in weight management, blood sugar control and overall metabolic health.
Medications acting on the glucagon-like peptide-1 pathway have been studied extensively over many years.
Some newer treatments also act on the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide pathway.
Treatment is individually assessed and monitored by our experienced GPs.

Common Questions Our Patients Ask
How long do patients typically take these medications?
Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy are most effective when taken long-term, often extending beyond one year. Clinical trials frequently run for 72–84 weeks (about 18–21 months), and some individuals continue treatment beyond this under medical supervision.
Ultimately, the length of treatment is tailored to each patient's goals and health.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
Recent research underscores how effective these medications can be.
A head-to-head trial published in The New England Journal of Medicine in May 2025 compared tirzepatide (Mounjaro) with semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) in 751 non-diabetic adults.
After 72 weeks, Mounjaro users lost 20.2% of their body weight compared with 13.7% with Ozempic/Wegovy.
Waist circumference decreased by 18.4 cm with Mounjaro compared with 13 cm with Ozempic/Wegovy.
Across the SURMOUNT clinical trials, Mounjaro consistently reduced both body weight and waist circumference regardless of how long someone had obesity, with weight losses of approximately 21% at the same dose over 72 weeks in participants with varying durations of obesity.
Individual results vary and your doctor will discuss realistic treatment goals with you.
Are these drugs safe to use?
When prescribed and monitored by experienced clinicians, Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy are considered safe and well tolerated.
Common side effects, particularly during dose initiation and escalation, include mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, constipation or diarrhoea and can be managed with our guidance.
Will I keep the weight off after stopping?
Studies show that stopping treatment without lifestyle changes often leads to weight regain. However, maintaining healthier habits built during treatment can help preserve your progress.
Because of this, many patients stay on therapy longer while transitioning to sustainable lifestyle routines to support long-term success.
