Appointment

Making Your Appointment

The practice is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5.30pm. Please be aware when choosing an appointment time that applicants should attend 30 minutes prior to the booked appointment time to complete necessary paperwork. For instance, an appointment at 3:00pm would mean arrival at 2.30pm. Please note, if you have an early appointment, you will be allowed access into the building only after 9:00am.

For visa medical appointments, please use our online BOOKING FORM and questionnaire. Please make sure you read all the information on this page before making your booking. You will need your passport number and any medical ID numbers that might have been issued to you by immigration.

Group / Family Bookings

If you are booking for more than one person, please select a date with enough available appointments for each of you. You need to book one separate appointment for each person attending. Please try to book consecutive appointments (one-after-the-other) as far as possible. If you are unable to book these, please email our team for assistance at info@knightsbridge-doctors.com.

Cancellation

The full fee of your selected appointment will be taken at the time of booking. Please note all appointment prices include a non-refundable fee of £80.00. Additionally, if the cancellation is within 48 hours of the booked appointment, 50 percent of the appointment fee but a minimum of £80.00 will be charged. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the paperwork / administration details are up to date and so the applicant is in a position to have the booked immigration medical examination. Applicants who attend and don't require an Immigration Medical Examination or cancel at short notice will be subject to the Practice cancellation policy.

All medicals are now processed electronically on eMedical.

Before You Book Your Canadian Immigration Medical

Please understand what type of medical you are expected to have. If you do not know, please seek clarification from IRCC directly.

Express Entry

If you are applying through Express Entry, you can book an Upfront Medical Examination before submitting your application.

Work / Study

If you are applying for a work permit or study permit, in most cases you can book an Upfront Medical if one is required for your application.

Permanent Residence

If you are applying for Permanent Residence through any route other than Express Entry, do not book an Upfront Medical.

Permanent Residence Applicants

If you are applying for Permanent Residence through any route other than Express Entry, you must wait until IRCC sends you your medical instructions (IME number) before booking your appointment. When PR applicants undergo an Upfront Medical, they risk shortening the medical validity and may need to redo their medicals.

What Is An Upfront Medical?

If you are expected by IRCC to have an Upfront Medical, you will not have been issued an IME number by IRCC. Instead, we will use your personal and passport details to create your IRCC medical file during your appointment and provide you with an Upfront Medical Information Sheet.

You must upload this information sheet to your IRCC application. It contains your Unique Medical Identifier (UMI), which allows IRCC to link your medical examination to your application.

Your Upfront Medical must be submitted to IRCC within three months of your appointment.

Where Do I Find My IME Number?

If IRCC has asked you to complete an immigration medical examination, your IME (Immigration Medical Examination) number will be included on the “Medical Report – Client Biodata and Summary (IMM 1017E)” or in your medical instructions letter.

It is usually an 8-digit number and will be clearly labelled as an IME number and can be found near a bar-code.

Further information on the health requirements may be found on the Canadian Immigration & Citizenship website: www.cic.gc.ca.

For Female Applicants

A full physical examination is required so if you wish to request a female Doctor, please book your appointment with either Dr O’Connell, Dr Bathula or Dr Littlewood. The examination does not involve a breast or pelvic examination.

For Applicants Under 16 Years

Applicants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If there is an issue with a parent or legal guardian attending, please contact the clinic directly as early as possible before an appointment. This will allow clarification of measures that may be required for the immigration medical examination to proceed.

What To Expect During The Examination

For an individual adult, please allow 1.5 hours from arrival for your appointment. However, we recommend allowing 2 hours in case of unforeseen delays. The approximate duration for a family of 4 is 2-3 hours.

The medical involves a physical examination, where the applicant will undress to underwear whilst wearing a gown.

If you require a chaperone during the medical examination, ideally please let us know in advance. You will need to undress down to your underclothes.

11+

Applicants aged 11 years and above will require a chest X-ray.

15+

Visa applicants aged 15 years and above will require blood tests for HIV and syphilis status and kidney function.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reschedule my appointment?

If you need to reschedule your appointment, please email the practice on info@knightsbridge-doctors.com with the new date and preferred time you need your appointment moved too. If you are rescheduling more than one person/appointment, please list all those who need to be moved in your email.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?

There is no need to fast, you can eat and drink as normal prior to your appointment.

I am booking for a family; how do I do this?

Every person who needs a medical must have their own appointment. You must book each person individually. Please choose a day with enough space for all of you and try to book consecutive appointments where possible.

What medical reports do I need to bring with me to my appointment?

If you have any significant past or ongoing medical conditions, please bring relevant Hospital Clinic letters (or occasionally a GP report) to your appointment. If you are otherwise healthy, you do not need to bring a medical report with you. If you are unsure, please wait and discuss this with the doctor during your appointment who will advise you further.

I have paid online; will I have to pay again on the day of my appointment?

If you have booked correctly for your medical appointment, you will have nothing further to pay on the day of your appointment. If, however, you have booked incorrectly, the difference in payment for the required tests will be taken from you via card during your appointment. Moreover, if any further required tests become apparent during your appointment, these will be charged additionally.

What does the medical examination involve?

The medical examination is an assessment with the doctor which will involve a series of questions regarding past medical history. For children, their development including school progress will be addressed.
The physical examination will consist of a general observation and, specifically, examination of each area of the body in turn. Thus, the lymph glands will be checked in the neck and under the arms. The ears and throat will be looked into. The heart and lungs will be examined in the chest and the abdomen will also be examined. Each applicant will also be weighed, their height measured, and, if appropriate, their visual acuity formally checked. There will be no breast or genital examination.
Kidney Function blood testing: For most accurate eGFR (kidney function) measurement, it is advised adults refrain from eating any meat in the 12 hours before having blood tests for creatinine and eGFR. If someone is taking creatine supplements (usually bodybuilders/some gym users), this may result in a falsely raised creatinine result and therefore a falsely low eGFR. Thus generally one should avoid creatinine supplements for a day or two  prior to blood tests for creatinine and eGFR.

Will I need to return to Knightsbridge Doctors after the initial appointment?

Uncommonly to complete the immigration medical examination, an applicant might need to return to the Practice for a follow up closer chest x-ray view or a further blood sample.

For queries regarding your visa type etc, please contact IRCC help centre:

www.ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/index-featured-can.asp
If you are applying via an Express Entry channel, you are eligible for an Upfront Medical.
Permanent (PR) resident applicants should not undergo an upfront medical (UMI). PR applicants will be issued medical instructions by the visa offices at the correct timing of the application process so as to avoid the expiration of their medicals. When PR applicants undergo an UMI, they risk shortening the medical validity and may need to redo their medicals.
Occasionally an applicant is concerned because they have had an Up-front medical and is then issued with an IME number. There is no need for a further medical. The RMO (Canadian Regional Medical Officer) will link the submitted Up-front examination with the Visa application.
If an applicant wishes, he/she can submit information on the IRCC web form :
www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/contact-ircc/web-form.html

Do I need to provide a urine sample during my appointment?

There is no urine test for Canada, you do not need to provide a urine sample.

I am pregnant, do I need to have a chest x-ray?

Pregnant Applicants have the option of either:
a. deferring the Chest X-Ray until after giving birth meaning their Immigration Medical Examination and visa application cannot be finalised until the Chest X-Ray examination is completed, or
b. Proceeding with the Chest X-Ray, with appropriate advice and precautions being taken. The Panel Physician will discuss these options at the appointment.

What happens if I don't need an immigration medical examination but my child does?

Before undergoing an IME, all applicants must complete the Client Declaration and Notice form. A legal guardian or parent may provide and sign the declaration on behalf of the applicant if the applicant is under 16 years of age or is unable to complete and sign the declaration for reasons of incompetency (for example, if they have reduced mental capacity).
The Client Declaration includes the following:
a declaration stating that all information provided at the time of the IME is true and complete
a notice stating that the IME information will be collected and temporarily stored in the eMedical system on segregated databases located in Australia
a notice explaining that the collection, use and disclosure to IRCC of IME information follows Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act or protects the health and safety of Canadians
a notice explaining the collection, storage, use and disclosure of vaccination information where the applicant has consented to the disclosure of this information to IRCC
