Making Your Appointment

The practice is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5.30pm. Please be aware when choosing an appointment time that applicants should attend 30 minutes prior to the booked appointment time to complete necessary paperwork. For instance, an appointment at 3:00pm would mean arrival at 2.30pm. Please note, if you have an early appointment, you will be allowed access into the building only after 9:00am.

For visa medical appointments, please use our online BOOKING FORM and questionnaire. Please make sure you read all the information on this page before making your booking. You will need your passport number and any medical ID numbers that might have been issued to you by immigration.

Group / Family Bookings

If you are booking for more than one person, please select a date with enough available appointments for each of you. You need to book one separate appointment for each person attending. Please try to book consecutive appointments (one-after-the-other) as far as possible. If you are unable to book these, please email our team for assistance at info@knightsbridge-doctors.com.

Cancellation

The full fee of your appointment will be taken at the time of booking. Please note all appointment prices include a non-refundable fee of £80.00. Additionally, if the cancellation is within 48 hours of the booked appointment, 50 percent of the appointment fee but a minimum of £80.00 will be charged. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the paperwork / administration details are up to date and be certain that an immigration medical examination is required by the New Zealand authorities. Please ensure the New Zealand authorities are requesting an Immigration Medical Examination. Applicants who attend and do not require an Immigration Medical Examination or cancel at short notice will be subject to the Practice cancellation policy.

eMedical and Upfront Medicals

All medicals are now processed electronically on eMedical.

Further information on the health requirements may be found on the New Zealand Immigration website.

If you have not already lodged an application with New Zealand Immigration or do not have an NZHR number, an “upfront medical” can be completed prior to your making a visa application.

This involves us creating a new NZER case file for you. After completing your immigration medical examination, you will be sent your information sheet. You will then need to upload this to your visa application.

Your unique identification number will be located in the top right-hand corner. This number enables New Zealand Immigration to manually link your immigration medical examination with your visa application.

You have three months from the date of your medical appointment to notify New Zealand Immigration of this number.

For Female Applicants

Women are advised not to book their appointment for 3 days either side of their menstrual period as this may affect the required urine test.

A full physical examination is required so if you wish to request a female Doctor, please book your appointment with either Dr O’Connell, Dr Bathula or Dr Littlewood. The examination does not involve a pelvic examination. If there is a clinical concern, a breast examination may be recommended by the Panel Physician for General Medical Certificate applicants over 45 years of age. This will only proceed if the applicant chooses. Alternative options can be outlined by the Panel Physician at the medical examination.

For Applicants Under 18 Years

Applicants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If there is an issue with a parent or legal guardian attending, please contact the clinic directly as early as possible before an appointment. This will allow clarification of measures that may be required for the immigration medical examination to proceed.

Before you book

What Medical Type Do You Need?

Please ensure you make the correct appointment booking. This will ensure no extra costs are later necessary. The vast majority of applicants require a General Medical Certificate examination.

We are not able to advise on what medical you require. If you are unsure if you require a General or Limited Medical Certificate (usually only for spouses of New Zealand citizens), please check the New Zealand Immigration health requirements.

Chest X-ray

A chest X-ray is included in the appointment for General and Limited Medicals. If you are expected to have a General or Limited medical and a chest X-ray, please only book the medical. You do not need to book an additional chest X-ray.

If you need a chest X-ray only, please book the chest X-ray only option from the appointment list.

Before you attend

What To Bring To Your Appointment

New Zealand Immigration Medicals are processed online through the eMedical system.

Either you have been issued an NZHR (unique medical reference number) by New Zealand Immigration.

Or you will be expected to have an Upfront Medical, whereby you will be issued an NZER (unique medical reference number) by our clinic.

  • ✓
Valid passport (mandatory) — the medical cannot proceed without this.
  • ✓
If you have significant medical conditions, please bring relevant GP / Specialist letters. If you are unclear what to bring, please wait and discuss this with the Panel Physician during your appointment.

Your eMedical Information Sheet

If you have attended for an Upfront medical, you will be sent an eMedical Information Sheet, via email, before leaving the clinic. You must add this Information Sheet to your application. This allows Immigration New Zealand to link your medical to your application. You have 3 months from the date of your medical to upload this to your application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reschedule my appointment?

If you need to reschedule your appointment, please email the practice on info@knightsbridge-doctors.com with the new date and preferred time you need your appointment moved too. If you are rescheduling more than one person/appointment, please list all those who need to be moved in your email.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?

There is no need to fast, you can eat and drink as normal prior to your appointment.

I am booking for a family; how do I do this?

Every person who needs a medical must have their own appointment. You must book each person individually. Please choose a day with enough space for all of you and try to book consecutive appointments where possible.

What medical reports do I need to bring with me to my appointment?

If you have any significant past or ongoing medical conditions, please bring relevant Hospital Clinic letters (or occasionally a GP report) to your appointment. If you are otherwise healthy, you do not need to bring a medical report with you. If you are unsure, please wait and discuss this with the doctor during your appointment who will advise you further.

I have paid online; will I have to pay again on the day of my appointment?

If you have booked correctly for your medical appointment, you will have nothing further to pay on the day of your appointment. If, however, you have booked incorrectly, the difference in payment for the required tests will be taken from you via card during your appointment. Moreover, if any further required tests become apparent during your appointment, these will be charged additionally.

What does the medical examination involve?

The medical examination is an assessment with the doctor which will involve a series of questions regarding past medical history. For children, their development including school progress will be addressed. The physical examination will consist of a general observation and, specifically, examination of each area of the body in turn. Thus, the lymph glands will be checked in the neck and under the arms. The ears and throat will be looked into. The heart and lungs will be examined in the chest and the abdomen will also be examined. Each applicant will also be weighed, their height measured, and, if appropriate, their visual acuity formally checked. There will be no genital examination.
Kidney Function blood testing: For most accurate eGFR (kidney function) measurement, it is advised adults refrain from eating any meat in the 12 hours before having blood tests for creatinine and eGFR. If someone is taking creatine supplements (usually bodybuilders/some gym users), this may result in a falsely raised creatinine result and therefore a falsely low eGFR. Thus generally one should avoid creatinine supplements for a day or two  prior to blood tests for creatinine and eGFR.

Will I need to return to Knightsbridge Doctors after the initial appointment?

Uncommonly to complete the immigration medical examination, an applicant might need to return to the Practice for a follow up closer chest x-ray view or a further blood sample.

I need a medical examination as well as a chest x-ray.  Do I need to book these separately?

If you have been asked to have a chest x-ray only, please book the chest x-ray only appointment type.
If you have been asked to have a Limited Medical examination and chest x-ray, please only book the Limited Medical Appointment type. The chest x-ray is included in this booking, and you do not need to book the chest x-ray additionally.
If you have been asked to have a General Medical, please book the Adult Full General appointment type, the chest x-ray is included in this booking. You do not need to book the chest x-ray additionally.

Do I need to provide a urine sample during my appointment?

All applicants aged 5 years and above must provide a urine sample during their appointment.

I am menstruating during my appointment; will this affect my urine sample?

The urine test for New Zealand does assess for microscopic blood. Thus, a woman’s monthly cycle can affect this test result. Ideally the appointment would occur outside of the monthly period.

I am pregnant, do I need to have a chest x-ray?

For female applicants who are pregnant, the chest x-ray examination will be set aside. Evidence of pregnancy must be provided, for example, a certificate from the applicant’s own doctor.

Are there any considerations about hepatitis B testing?

All New Zealand adult full general immigration medical examinations require a screening hepatitis B blood test. Please be aware that for between 4 to 8 weeks after having a hepatitis B vaccination, the outcome of the screening hepatitis B blood test can be affected.

What happens if I don't need an immigration medical examination but my child does?

The client consent and declaration must be signed and dated by the applicant in the presence of the Panel Physician. A parent or guardian must sign on behalf of an applicant who is under 18 years of age or who is an ‘incapable person.’ If children are subject to custody arrangements, Panel Members may need to obtain consent from both parents and guardians. For applicants aged under 18 years where a guardian is signing the consent form, the relationship of the guardian to the applicant must be listed on the consent form that is signed. Evidence of the guardianship relationship must be provided and attached to eMedical where it is not a parent.
